In this year's Melbourne Design Week, renowned Melbourne artists Pamela Irving and Anne Riggs’ exhibition re-contextualised discarded objects and materials into new conversations. Their artworks raise conversations about consumption and waste, materials that go into landfill.
Sardine cans, an everyday object with a utilitarian design, was the foundation of their exhibition. Once the contents had been eaten, Irving+Riggs created the Omega Series - a play on the essential omega 3 vitamin and the Greek letter Omega, representing the end, the ultimate limit.
This exhibition has resonated with audiences who were fascinated with the materiality of the artworks, and the themes contained in them.
